As some of you know, I've been involved quite a bit in the search for information about George Mallory and Andrew Irvine's final days and hours on Mount Everest since 1999. Many others have been, too, over the years, and at times the data can be a bit overwhelming to digest, scattered and difficult to find, and rarely much of it compiled in one place in a format that can be interpreted with (relative) ease.

To help with that, in May 2022 I created and shared a project trying to put all this info at people's fingertips. I then updated the project in April 2023 based on feedback and requests from many of you.

Last week, thanks to Tom Holzel's Facebook post about the 1981 French Military Expedition's search - something I was either unaware of or had forgotten - I was prompted to revisit the project and add that data. While in it, I realized the user interface wasn't as smooth and refined as I wanted it to be, and much of the data on the first image did not carry over to images two and three. So, I dug back in and did my best to get it to a better place with more information, better replication across images and viewpoints, and a more streamlined user experience.

The result is below; please dig in and enjoy, and of course let me know what I've missed, what errors I've made, etc. I'll do my best to update accordingly. And, if you want a video rundown on the project and changes/updates, check the video below as well.

Plans for Tomorrow

Today is the day, and it's a big one. I thought much about writing something up days ago with my thoughts on who to vote for, and why. But, then I realized that - for better or worse - most American minds have been made up for some time, and those who are looking for […]
