Walking toward the beach the other day – a decidedly rough day, chock full of frustration, disappointment, self-doubt, questioning – the sun, tucked behind a thunderhead on the horizon, unleashed an explosion of light, accenting the sky with “God rays” and sprinkling some hope into the humid air.
It’s easy in these times – enticing even – to surrender to hopelessness. The news is a relentless vomit of upset: bad (or non-existent) leadership, war and strife, climate chaos, electoral madness, and more. And that’s the global list; we all have our local, individual woes, our personal issues which cause torment, our fears which breed insomnia and gray hair (my head is awash with them), our arguments and challenges with friends, spouses, schools, neighbors.
But, within it all, there is always the promise of sunshine – maybe even God rays – ready to pour out and remind us all that tomorrow is another day. Amidst the chaos and confusion, the smoke of conflict and lies, there is always hope. And, with hope comes energy: energy to make decisions, to decide elections, to build the better world we all want and we all deserve.
Back to E.B.: “Hang on to your hat. Hang on to your hope. And wind the clock, for tomorrow is another day.”
See you tomorrow…
