Up the Southeast Ridge

NOTE: As of June 5, 2026, this third part of the virtual trek brings us up onto Mount Everest following the Southeast Ridge route all the way to the summit, and also up onto the West Ridge route as far as we made it in 2012. I'll soon add more with the entire route up the Northeast Ridge from Tibet and a visit to the Kangshung (East) Face. To whet your appetite, there is a massive panorama from the Pang La pass included now - take a look if you know where to look!

If you haven't done the first two parts of the trek yet, I'd recommend doing those first, starting in Kathmandu.

Welcome!

This is the third stage of a much bigger virtual trek. If you haven't already, please begin with the "Muddhi Memories Tour," which starts in Kathmandu, travels east to Tumlingtar, up through Bhojpur to Salpa Silichong, down to Mahakulung, and then up the new Muddhi-Kongmedingma Trail to the Amphu Laptsa Pass.

We're now on Mount Everest proper, starting from Everest's Khumbu Basecamp and moving through the wilds of the Khumbu Icefall, the oppressive calm of the Valley of Silence (Western Cwm), and on to Camp 2. From there, you can go straight up the Southeast Ridge route to the summit of Everest, or turn north (climber's left) and make an attempt on the West Ridge Headwall.

What you'll notice - and hopefully enjoy and appreciate! - is that I have implemented a 3D model of Everest and the surrounding area. Just like using Google Earth, this 3D model can be panned, tilted, and moved around to get a better feel for the layout of Everest and where each panorama was taken from. 

I've got more panoramas ready to be loaded and uploaded, so look for the climb to continue above Camp 2 very soon.
